Douglas Gordon

Born in 1966, in Glasgow (United Kingdom)

Lives and works in Berlin (Germany)

Internationally recognised since the early 1990s, Douglas Gordon combines videos, installations, photographs, wall texts and performance in his work, which is inspired by conceptual art, Hollywood film, 19th century Scottish gothic literature and rock culture.

One of his best-known projects, 24 Hour Psycho (1993), extends Alfred Hitchcock’s film Psycho over a 24-hour period. Exploring the limits of perception, he highlights analogies between the functioning of the human psyche and the playing of the film in manipulations that reveal the "unconscious". Bringing out the opposition between black and white, the artist investigates in his videos the duality of people, torn between good and bad, life and death.
