"Weiss", 2006, is a series of small white paintings. For this project, Gerhard Richter applied white oil paint in uneven layers to either paper or aluminium.

The underlying colours are left to show through, radically distancing the painting from the monochrome issue. Depending on the material and the intensity of the oil, the paint slides over or adheres to the surface, creates ripples or a thick coating, congeals or dribbles and spreads.
