Pianist, composer and teacher Jean-Frédéric Neuburger brings to the Fondation a visionary programme featuring some of the leading figures of modern music.
In Perduto in una città d’acque, Sicilian composer Salvatore Sciarrino evokes the ghosts of Venice (the “city of water”) and the melancholic smile of his teacher Luigi Nono, to whom the piece pays homage. Ghosts are also honoured in the imagination of Thomas Adès, another pianist-composer. The shadows of the 20th century loom over the imperial Sonata no. 2 by Boulez, whose powerful gestures irresistibly invoke the Beethovian piano. Lastly, Neuburger will perform the double act of playing his own compositions when he also premieres three études commissioned by the Fondation Louis Vuitton.
