Among Warhol’s three series of self-portraits from the 1960s, "Self-Portrait" (1967) is the most famous.

Looking into the distance, his hand on his mouth, the artist appears relaxed, assured, even content. This is Warhol as a celebrity in his own right. He offers a different image of himself: serious, calm, seductive. Self-Portrait (1967) embodies the archetypal image of the artist as both maker and spectator, a contradiction between intimacy and indifference
