Adrian Paci (born in 1969 in Albania) uses various media such as video, installation, painting, photography and sculpture to show how fiction, far from being unreal, can reveal the complexity of our reality. Inspired by his everyday life, he transforms his experiences into poetic narratives that reveal broader realities, blending the conflictual with the marvellous through a romanticism that is mindful of the challenges of artistic resistance.

Biography

His exile to Italy in 1997, whilst fleeing the Albanian riots, led him to move away from painting towards video, exploring new cinematic languages. His early videos, rooted in his personal experiences, explore separation and adaptation to a new place. Gradually, he broadened his perspective to encompass collective history, addressing major existential and social themes such as migration, globalisation and cultural identity.

Paci’s training as a painter is evident in his symbolic use of light and chiaroscuro, particularly in his video portraits such as Centro di Permanenza Temporanea (2007) and Electric Blue (2010). His approach centres on the tension between the moving image and the still image, the constant shift from the real to the metaphorical.
