Salmon Margaret
Margaret Salmon (born in 1975 in New York) is an American-British filmmaker renowned for her cinematic portraits that blend poetry and ethnography. Trained at the School of Visual Arts in New York and the Royal College of Art in London, she captures the melancholy of everyday life, following in the tradition of Cinéma Vérité, often collaborating with people rarely seen on film to create empathetic works.
Margaret Salmon’s films can be described as portraits based on time – the duration of the film stock, but also the time it takes to reveal and shape her characters. These portraits possess a universal dimension.
Winner of the MaxMara Art Prize for Women in 2006, she has exhibited internationally (Venice and Berlin Biennales, Yokohama Triennale) and teaches at the Glasgow School of Art.
