Ömega Man 23

Omegan Man is painting no. 23 in a series in which Oehlen draws inspiration from the film The Omega Man (1971), a post-apocalyptic film starring Dr Robert Neville, the sole survivor of a global pandemic, fighting for his life in the Los Angeles desert.

The painting depicts a white form – a spatial element resembling a human arm – cutting through a chaotic landscape rendered in an explosion of colour.

As is always the case with this artist, the title serves as a pretext for the painting, but as it was created during the Covid pandemic, it takes on an additional layer of meaning.
