Thelma Golden has been the Director and Chief Curator of The Studio Museum in Harlem since 2005, after being its Deputy Director for Exhibitions and Programmes. Previously, Golden was the Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art. The Studio Museum in Harlem opened as a pioneering experiment in 1968, with a programme dedicated to African-American artists and artists of African origin. The museum, which has a collection of more than 2,000 works by 400 artists covering a period of two centuries, presents temporary exhibitions and has a residency programme.
