PERFORMANCE: “mOts premiers”

AUDITORIUM

Length: 40 minutes

Two uncommon artists. One expresses himself using words, the other using his body. In a blend of discovery, exploration, confrontation and dialogue, mOts premiers is the story of the encounter between these two individuals. Through play and movement, they observe each other, confront each other, hide from one another, then eventually become acquainted. These two figures, in resonance with the experimental work of Gerhard Richter and his creation of a personal pictorial language, construct a shared language and forge their path toward something beyond.

The Company

Laurance Henry is a visual artist and set designer by training (École des Beaux-Arts in Rennes, then École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg). In 1999, she and Erik Mennesson founded the Brittany-based company a k entrepôt. Their theatrical and choreographic works have a distinctively refined visual style in performances designed for young people, from toddlers to pre-teens.

The performance known as “mOts premiers” [“First Words”] is the first piece in a cycle of creations in which Laurance Henry explores the notion of language, be it of words, movements or gestures.

Team: Concept and Direction: Laurance Henry; Assistant Director and Technical Director: Erik Mennesson; Performers: Jordan Malfoy, Harrison Mpaya; Choreographic Assistant: Pauline Maluski; Philosophical Perspective and Dialogue: Dominique Paquet; Costumes: Sophie Hoarau; Music Composition: Sylvain Robine; Technician: Ronan Ménard; Production Manager: Laurène Blanckaert

ORCHESTRATING CHANCE WORKSHOP

LEVEL 2

For ages 3 and up

Creating randomness is quite a challenge! Younger participants can experiment with chance and colour using the 1024 Farben [1024 Colors] model. Roll the coloured cubes, tossing them like dice, to create a grid just like Gerhard Richter did.

BLURRING THE SKY WORKSHOP

LEVEL 2

For ages 6 and up

There’s a fine line between abstraction and figuration! With Gerhard Richter’s Wolken [Clouds] works as inspiration, this workshop is a chance for children and adults alike to create their own little corner of the sky. Using watercolour pencils, experiment with the soft, blurred lines so often seen in the German artist’s work.

A concept from artist Audrey Matt Aubert.
