Open Space #14 – Lu Yang
GALLERY 8
Chinese artist Lu Yang presents DOKU The Flow in Gallery 8, as part of the Open Space programme dedicated to contemporary creation.
Lu Yang has a multidisciplinary practice and particularly favours the use of advanced digital technologies and wide-ranging collaborations, including designers, composers, psychologists, dancers, engineers and scientists, through which he creates virtual worlds that unfold in immersive video installations. His fantastic imaginary realm, one with postapocalyptic overtones, is born of a syncretism in which Japanese popular culture – video games, manga, anime, pop music – dovetails with Buddhist spirituality, transhumanist theories and neuroscientific research. The artist brings to life hybrid creatures that transcend identity concepts of gender, sex and nationality to better understand what it means to be human in the 21st century.
For Open Space #14, Lu Yang’s first solo exhibition in a French cultural institution, he designed a unique video installation centred on his new film DOKU The Flow, the second chapter of the “DOKU” series. DOKU, a virtual character whose name is inspired by the Japanese phrase ‘’Dokusho Dokushi,’’ meaning “We are born alone, and we die alone,” is designed from the digitisation of the artist’s own body. In this film, we can follow the adventures of this avatar of many faces, through which Lu Yang transcends the limits of the physical body to explore digital reincarnation.
7.00 p.m.-10.30 p.m.
GOGO GREEN - DJ SET
HALL
The eco-committed GOGO GREEN DJ and artists collective plays bright and eclectic sets in its promotion of more sustainable ways to party. The crew’s three artists, DJs and producers – Camille Doe, Ams and Lefblom – are influenced and inspired by the UK scene and complement one other’s respective worlds ranging from house to UK garage, tech-house to ravy anthems.
7.00 p.m.-10.30 p.m.
