In 1968, John Giorno created “DIAL-A-POEM”, the first poetic service by telephone.
During 4 years, if you dialed the following telephone number 212 628 0400, you could hear one of the 180 poems recorded by artists, musicians ou poets chosen by the artist such as Patti Smith, Deborah Harry, Philip Glass, John Cage, Bernard Heidsieck or Bryon Gysin.
Through this amazing landscape of sounds and voices, this program - faithful to the expanded definition of John Giorno’s poetry - form a unique archive.
For JOHN GIORNO POETRY DAY initiated by the Centre Pompidou, the Fondation reactivates this iconic artwork part of its Collection - presented during the opening of the building in 2014 under the form of an installation who allowed the public to listen to these poems by calling (for free) the following telephone number 0805-50-23-15*.
* Service and free calls from a French telephone number.
