From Architecture is a series of performances replaying and reinventing the Fondation's sound identity. Together with four sound engineers/recordists, Tarek Atoui completes a 'sound scan' of Frank Gehry's structure, to capture its resonances and vibrations as well as the sounds it emits and receives from its environment. The result is a collection of fifty sound phenomena that will be the subject of compositions and live performances played by the artist and his guests. In addition to his two solos, Tarek Atoui will be joined for two performances by a quartet and a group of fifteen musicians from the international written and improvised music scene.

the artist

Tarek Atoui

Born in Lebanon in 1980, Atoui moved to France in 1998 where he studied economics and electroacoustic music. In 2008 he worked as artistic director at STEIM in Amsterdam, a centre for the research and development of new electronic musical instruments. Today Atoui is a sound artist and composer and is developing a permanent reflection on the concept of the instrument and the act of performance itself as a complex, open and dynamic process. He has also performed at the New Museum in New York (2009/2011); the Sharjah Biennial 9 and 11 in the United Arab Emirates (2009/2013); the dOCUMENTA 13 in Kassel (2012) and the 8th Berlin Bienniale (2014).
