The Fondation pays tribute to Frank Gehry, the architect of its building, who passed away on 5 December last year.
On 7 and 9 July, two exceptional concerts bring together close friends of Frank Gehry on stage: conductors Esa-Pekka Salonen, Gustavo Dudamel and Thomas Adès, alongside three musicians associated with the Fondation since its opening in 2014: violinist Daniel Lozakovich and pianists Yuja Wang and Alexandre Kantorow, who have given the Auditorium some of its finest musical moments.
On 7 July, Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra of London in Jean Sibelius's sublime violin concerto, followed by his Symphony No. 7.
The first half is given over to Yuja Wang, performing as a solo pianist, in a four-hands piece with Thomas Adès, and in a violin sonata with Daniel Lozakovich. Thomas Adès closes this first programme by conducting his own work, Shanty, for string orchestra.
The Fondation Louis Vuitton regrets to announce the cancellation of the "Tribute to Frank Gehry" concert scheduled for Thursday, July 9.
Following the earthquake that struck Venezuela on Wednesday, June 24, the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela—under the direction of conductor Gustavo Dudamel—has had to cancel its European tour, and consequently its concert at the Fondation on July 9.
The Orchestra and the Fondation Louis Vuitton are actively working to reschedule the event for the coming months and will announce the new date as soon as possible.
We would like to share a message from Gustavo Dudamel:
“It is with profound disappointment that we must cancel our concert with the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela at the Fondation Louis Vuitton to celebrate the life of our friend, Frank Gehry.
At this moment, our responsibility must be to the people of Venezuela in the aftermath of the earthquakes earlier this week. As the humanitarian crisis continues to unfold, our efforts—and those of the entire El Sistema family—are fully focused on supporting those most affected. To help meet these urgent needs, we are partnering with the United Nations Development Programme to help provide immediate relief and critical support. We are grateful for all who are able to contribute via this link.
