Thomas Schütte creates many different types of work in his personal and uncategorisable “repertoire”, in the theatrical sense. Influenced by the teaching of Gerhard Richter, he moved away from the dominant minimal and conceptual forms to find an original way of translating his thoughts on representing the power and social responsibility of art in architectural models designed to be “models for thinking”.

In The Collection

Exhibition of the Collection

From 27 October 2014 to 25 November 2014

Inaugural Hang

Curated to complement Frank Gehry’s architecture, the first hang displays a selection of emblematic works from the four themes of the collection (Contemplative, Pop, Expressionist, Music/Sound) by Christian Boltanski, Pierre Huyghe, Bertrand Lavier, Gerhard Richter and Thomas Schütte. As part of his commission for the auditorium, one room is dedicated to the works of Ellsworth Kelly.

Expressionist and contemplative works

The second phase in the inaugural hang featured a larger number of works, based on the Expressionist and the Contemplative themes.

Pop & Music

The collection is constantly evolving. This third presentation of the Collection of the Fondation's artworks, with popist lines, including music and sound, gather more than twenty contemporary artists.
