Intermission : Halloween Afghanistan I (Captain America)

GIs in Iraq wear animal masks and an alien mask while riding donkeys, while in Afghanistan, two soldiers dressed as comic-book hero Captain America and an X-Men character are running a marathon. Due to their size, these pieces of fabric bearing woodblock prints based on amateur photos make an ironic reference to large tapestries of battle scenes. The title of the series suggests that the events occurred between episodes of combat. Each work features symbols of conflict, such as the provocatively patriotic figure of Captain America, or the masked soldiers who allude to the Riders of the Apocalypse.
