Composer and pianist Chassol presents select works taken from his Ultrascores creations, musical journeys to many lands: the United States with “The Troup (Nola Chérie),” India with “Indiamore,” Martinique with “Big Sun” and Japan with his latest work, “Ludi,” heavily inspired by Hermann Hesse’s novel The Glass Bead Game. Accompanied by his drummer, he also performs his new piece, “Chassol plays Basquiat.”
Something takes place in Jean-Michel Basquiat’s painting that you also experience in Christophe Chassol’s music. This is most obvious when comparing their compositions: on canvas for the former, on sheet music for the latter. Because they both have a way of cutting, superimposing, sampling, composing over samples of their previous creations that creatively unites them. They create a backdrop and compose upon it with techniques all their own. In parallel with the Basquiat Soundtracks exhibition at the Philharmonie de Paris, Chassol presents a singular composition with the painter as theme: “I’m Not a Real Person” reframes Basquiat’s words by using his punchlines as mantras. Here, in collaboration with prodigy producer Phazz (Orelsan, Oxmo Puccino, SCH, Lyonzon and many others), Chassol opens his music to sounds with more of a rhythm-and-blues vibe.
Your concert ticket gives you free admission to the "Basquiat x Warhol: Painting Four Hands" exhibition (Galleries close at 7:45 p.m.).

CHASSOL
French composer, director and musician Christophe Chassol is an artist with singular composition methods. He is the creative force behind uncategorisable albums/films/performances that he calls Ultrascores, musical journeys to many lands: the United States with “The Troup (Nola Chérie),” India with “Indiamore,” Martinique with “Big Sun” and Japan with his latest work, “Ludi,” heavily inspired by Hermann Hesse’s novel The Glass Bead Game.
In addition to the concerts he puts on worldwide, Chassol composes for both movies and television and collaborates with a wide variety of international artists, including Frank Ocean, Solange, Xavier Veilhan, Sophie Calle, the group Phoenix and Sebastien Tellier. In 2017, Chassol began broadcasting on classical radio station France Musique as a weekly commentator for the morning show hosted by Saskia Deville. Since October 2021, he has been hosting a new music-focused television show, Ground Control, on the Franco-German culture channel ARTE.
