Late Hours "Jean-Michel Basquiat"

Once a month, the Fondation Louis Vuitton hosts its Late Hour event, offering a new perspective on the building, the art works and the exhibitions. The evening events dedicated to Basquiat and Schiele offer an exciting and entertaining celebration of these two major artists.
December’s Late Hour events will focus on Basquiat’s links with the “studio of the street”, particularly New York’s nascent hip-hop scene during the 1980s.

Barney Artist is a hip-hop maestro whose laid-back grooves belie his gritty subject matters. The 26-year-old blends rap and jazz to produce a fresh sound with echoes of A Tribe Called Quest and The Roots. He tackles themes ranging from love and loss to religion, leading listeners on a journey of existential reflection. Barney Artist’s latest album, Home is where the Art is, veers between soul and hip-hop, bathed in harmonies that are easy on the ear.

This is for anyone who dreams of getting behind the mic and being in the spotlight! A karaoke playlist from YARD features the key hip-hop trends that influenced Basquiat as well as artists he in turn inspired. Discover what he was listening to then, and what he would have been listening to now, from Run DMC to A$AP Rocky.
