Making a rare appearance in Paris, Ahmad Jamal has chosen the Fondation Louis Vuitton for a world preview performance of his new album, Ballades.
At the age of 88, following in the footsteps of Chopin, Liszt and Brahms, the legendary jazz musician has written Ballades, a series of compositions for solo piano which see him returning to his roots in a transcendent journey.
Alongside his solo pieces, Jamal will perform works for duo and quartet with Herlin Riley (drums), James Cammack (double bass) & Manolo Badrena (percussion). This new album is a masterpiece to be discovered in an exclusive performance at the Auditorium.
Jamal is a mentor for the new generation of pianists. Among them is the Azerbaijani pianist Shahin Novrasli. He has now released a new album, From Baku to New York, produced by Jamal. It features interpretations of pieces by American musicians (Dizzy Gillepsie, Victor Young, Michael Jackson, Joni Mitchell) selected with Jamal, as well as a composition by Novrasli himself, Shahin’s Day.
On the invitation of his mentor, Novrasli is joining Jamal for an unique concert during the Late-Hours of the Fondation, on 5 July 2019.
