Performance “4 chiens et une prune” (“Four Dogs and a Plum”)
Alongside The Guru, his solo show presented at the Fondation as part of Open Space, an exhibition programme dedicated to contemporary artists, Ndayé Kouagou presents his performance “4 chiens et une prune” (“Four Dogs and a Plum”).
By asking his audience questions, the artist initiates a conversation in which the answers are given in both words and movements, shifting attention onto the spectators. Through what seems to be a children’s tale featuring five little dogs, the artist raises intriguing and existential questions.
In this interactive performance, Ndayé Kouagou starts essential and exciting conversations about everything and nothing, inviting the audience to play with him in a question-and-answer game.
“4 chiens et une prune” (“Four Dogs and a Plum”) makes you wonder why. The question is obviously “why?” We always wonder why. But why not? It’s always harder to answer the question “why not?” than to answer “why?”! And do you know why? Because the answer is closer to “why not?” than to “why?” I swear I’m not trying to confuse you – no, not this time. I really believe you should come. Don’t ask me why and don’t expect too much, but please come.” Ndayé Kouagou
Ticket also includes access to Open Space#11 and the exhibition "Basquiat x Warhol. Painting Four Hands".
Ndayé Kouagou
Ndayé Kouagou is a French artist who lives and works in Paris. He is represented by the Nir Altman Galerie in Munich. His work, from performance to video, is based primarily on the texts he writes himself. These present as flights of philosophical conjecture, sometimes powerful, other times muddled, often intending to directly challenge the audience.
Using his texts, mostly written in English, in which he tackles universal existential questions, the artist imagines performances, videos and sculptures/paintings exploring the power of words, their meaning, sound and form.
