FLV Lab 7 – “BASQUIAT x WARHOL” MINI-GAMES - 2023

The seventh FLV Lab presented interactive mini-games for tablets based on the theme of Basquiat x Warhol. Painting Four Hands. The prototypes were scattered throughout the exhibition and the architectural tour path.

Each year, the FLV Lab invites students pursuing the Applied Arts Master’s degree (DSAA) in graphic design and multimedia narration at the Lycée Jacques Prévert in Boulogne-Billancourt, to design and build prototypes of digital projects that focus on the Frank Gehry building and the exhibitions on display at the time.

Solastalgie

Deep in a forest dotted with the remnants of a vanished world, a small, solitary being needed help. Visitors lent a hand to this nature spirit by interacting with an environment that constantly changed with the seasons, directly inspired by Adrián Villar Rojas’s work Where the Slaves Live. This game intricately examined the importance of vestiges and what we leave behind us, traces of past civilisations.

The Fondation's digital innovations

Launch of a Virtual Reality Experience

The Fondation has developed an innovative virtual reality experience, offering a fresh perspective on the building's architecture. This VR experience allows visitors to discover the construction stages and surroundings of the "Glass Ship" in an unexpected way.

The experience offers an interactive tour, guided by a cultural guide from the Fondation, and unfolds in three parts, exploring the notion of multi-scale:

  • The first chapter, "Giants Around Frank Gehry's Building", transports visitors into a dimension where they interact with a scale model of the building. Equipped with virtual reality headsets, they take in the building as a whole from an enlarged viewpoint, exploring its materials and spaces alongside the guide, culminating in a focus on the skylights and the Terraces.
  • The second chapter, "Travelling Across the Glass Sails", offers a shift in scale. Visitors are transported to the Terraces to gain height and look out over the Bois de Boulogne and the Jardin d'Acclimatation, revealing the full scale of the building through spectacular, never-before-seen vantage points.
  • Once this VR experience, "An Expedition Around Frank Gehry's Architecture", has come to an end, visitors are invited to extend their discovery with an in-situ visit of the Architectural Trail, the Grotto, and the Terraces — bridging the virtual and the real, and allowing them to rediscover these spaces in an entirely new light.

Visit App with New Tabs

Launched in April 2023, the new Fondation Louis Vuitton web application, available as a free resource, has been redesigned to offer brand-new features that accompany visitors at every stage of their journey – before, during, and after their visit.

With four distinct tabs – "Prepare", "Approach", "Visit", and "Extend" – the app guides visitors from start to finish, enriching their discovery of the Fondation.

Even before arriving, users can immerse themselves in exclusive content such as original podcasts about current exhibitions, mini-games, and 360° virtual tours. This gives them the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the building and the works they are about to discover. During their visit, visitors are supported by the integrated audio guide, which offers audio commentaries as well as interviews with exhibition curators and artists.

After leaving the Fondation Louis Vuitton, users are invited to continue their exploration by accessing further content, including a range of personalised memory-making features – offering a unique way to preserve and share the highlights of their visit.
