In the form of an aquarium, Cambrian Explosion 10 is a marine ecosystem inhabited by crabs. In this living world, an imposing porous rock floats on the water’s surface.

The piece refers to the sudden appearance of most major animal species during the Cambrian explosion 540 million years ago. The natural environment is central to Huyghe’s work, which seems to capture the impermanence of the living world and a certain original porosity between the elements.
