"Trois hommes qui marchent I" (1948) is a fleeting vision of moving figures whose solitude intersects in the immediate aftermath of the war.
The scene resonates with the existential thinking of the time. Giacometti had taken refuge in Switzerland during the war, returning to Paris in 1945 and re-immersing himself in the city and its movement. One noteworthy aspect of the sculpture is its base, which alludes to that of a public monument, glorifying the anonymous hero.
