The camera then enters a shadowy restaurant where a monkey is dressed as a girl wearing a Noh-style white theatre mask, redesigned by Pierre Huyghe. Untitled (Human Mask) is based on a real-life story, widely viewed on YouTube, showing a monkey trained to serve customers in a Japanese restaurant. In this piece, the artist filmed the same monkey in the restaurant where it works, but inactive. Out of its disturbing gaze a deep humanity emanates, reducing the difference between animals and humans.
