Since she began drawing in chalk on blackboards in 1995, Tacita Dean has used techniques in which drawing seems to come out of the memory of the material, through erasing and leaving traces.
Resembling streaks of lightning in the night sky, Lightning Series I-VII was made by cutting and scratching the image on carbon paper. They can be seen as the negative version of her dry point works in alabaster she has made since 2002.
