"Bouquet" (2004), a spray-painted column decorated with trinkets and gaudy garlands, is one of a succession of assemblages Isa Genzken made using discarded objects and figurines following the 9/11 attacks.

Dominated by the large bouquet from which it takes its name, the sculpture combines the colours of the German flag on the base of the column with figurines, mostly associated with westerns and traditional American imagery, suggesting the dual identity felt by the artist. In a symbolic gesture of repairing reality, it highlights fragile signs of everyday life, marked by chance and fantasy.
