This small video projection is made up of three sequences. First, rays of energy, borrowed from cinematographic special effects, pierce the centre of a rose, its fragrance almost perceptible.

This is followed by a black and white photo of a woman smoking a cigarette, then a shot of fake fog being blown by an invisible force. A vision, or a reminiscence, this mental image has a strange timeless quality.

In 2002, Trisha Donnelly created one of her best-known “events”. Arriving on horseback at the Casey Kaplan Gallery, dressed as a Napoleonic soldier, the artist announced that the Emperor had abdicated.
